Celebrating 20 Years of Public Health Impact
Support Public Health Students during Rebels Give!
The UNLV School of Public Health was established in 2004 to improve people's health and well-being worldwide. It is the first accredited School of Public Health in the state of Nevada and is one of only 68 in the world with this distinction. Nearly, twenty years later, its departments, programs, and research units are growing and still working to provide a diverse education, practical training experience, and numerous community involvement opportunities to prepare students to become leaders and professionals in the field of Public Health.
Your gift can be directed to the following funds:
SPH Alumni Chapter Endowment Campaign - The UNLV School of Public Health Alumni Association (SPH Alumni) fosters the advancement of the School's initiatives and deepens the connection with alumni and our community. To encourage the best and brightest minds to pursue a career in public health and healthcare, SPH Alumni launched an inaugural scholarship campaign in 2021. The fundraiser resonated with the community, and to our delight, the first-ever alumni-funded scholarship, which provides tuition and critical financial support, was proudly distributed in the spring of 2022. This year, we hope you will join us in increasing the financial support we can provide to students who are invested in advancing and safeguarding the health and well-being of our most vulnerable populations. Our long-term goal is to raise $30,000 to establish an endowed scholarship that would exist in perpetuity to support students in need, but we can't do it without your help.

Public Health Emergency Response - Emergency grants provide resources to students in immediate need and remove the financial barriers that might keep them from continuing their education during a challenging life situation. Students who meet the criteria for successful degree completion should not have to choose between necessities for living (food, shelter, etc.) and completing their degree. The Emergency Aid Program provides emergency grants as well as support and the connection to resources for students seeking to improve their overall well-being. The program assists low or moderate-income School of Public Health students (undergraduate and graduate) by providing financial support when they need assistance with unexpected emergency expenses.

NV Minority Health and Equity Coalition - In 2016, the Nevada Minority Health & Equity Coalition (NMHEC) was established as a response to requests from community members and elected officials for a grassroots organization that could interface between the community and state and local funders. The mission of the NMHEC is to eliminate health disparities in Nevada through constructive and supportive collaboration among partners, leaders, and stakeholders committed to improving the health and well-being of underserved Nevadans.
In 2019, the NMHEC came under the umbrella of the UNLV School of Public Health. NMHEC members strongly believe that public health is the lens through which society should address poverty, discrimination, and injustice. Their vision is a Nevada where underserved individuals and communities have the opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle through the promotion of sustainable and equitable communities, which support the elimination of preventable and unjust health disparities.
